Solergy Introduces the World’s First Upgradeable, 40+ Year Lifetime Solar Energy System

Cost of generated electricity as low as $0.01/kWhr

Oakland, Calif. – Today, Solergy officially introduced 40 Year Solar, the world’s first upgradeable, 40+ year lifetime solar energy system. The system can generate electricity at a cost as low as $0.01/kWhr.

Solergy has several reference installations of 40 Year Solar in operation with prestigious entities in Italy and the United States that will be announced in the coming months.

The system is based on a new, innovative approach to High Concentrating Photovoltaic (HCPV) technology that changes the economics of solar energy generation.

The unique module design allows for easy, low-cost upgrade of individual solar cells in the field as higher efficiency solar cells become available. That means that system power output can increase over time rather than degrade and total electricity generated is 3 times more than traditional solar panels over the lifetime of the system. Customers can rest easy knowing that they are not locked into a particular technology that will soon be obsolete.

40 Year Solar uses the highest efficiency solar cell technology in the world, multijunction cells, which have registered an average efficiency improvement of 1% absolute every year for the past 15 years and are expected to continue this trend to soon exceed 50% conversion efficiency.

Solergy has implemented a series of patented breakthroughs to ensure superior reliability, resilience, and consistent performance compared to all previous HCPV technologies. More specifically, Solergy 40 Year Solar is the only HCPV technology that includes:

- All glass concentrating lenses
- Upgradeable, hermetically-sealed modules
- Fine-tune, secondary alignment that guarantees 0.1° sun-tracking accuracy for every single module
- Robust tracker structure that continues to operate in up to 200km/hr winds

It has been designed to endure the toughest environmental conditions as well as extreme weather events.

In addition to ground-mount, utility-scale solar power plants, 40 Year Solar fulfills multiple energy needs for commercial, industrial, and distributed generation users including optional cogeneration of heat and integration of battery storage directly onboard. Solergy’s unique ‘3-in-1’ energy appliance – electricity, heat, and storage - is ideal for microgrids in both grid-connected and remote, off-grid configurations.

Industry analysts agree that solar is poised for steady growth over the next 30 years. Although traditional silicon PV currently dominates the market with over 90% share, the core technology is quickly approaching its practical efficiency limit. New platforms and technology breakthroughs will be necessary to sustain growth and transition a significant portion of the world’s electricity supply to solar.
