CPV Overview

Concentrated Photovoltaic (CPV) technology uses optics to focus sunlight onto photovoltaic cells, in order to increase energy conversion efficiency and to reduce the amount of expensive solar cell materials needed to generate a certain power output. These systems maximize energy output by tracking the sun throughout the day.

Systems designated as High Concentrated Photovoltaic (HCPV) typically focus sunlight to intensities of at least 300 suns or more. These systems often employ multijunction cells based on non-silicon materials that have the highest efficiency of any photovoltaic technology. Solergy CPV avoids issues with durability of plastic optics, tracking precision, module deformation and misalignment, and thermal management which have prevented CPV from realizing its energy production potential thus far.
